Crest Lane students presented the annual Christmas program to the Westminster congregation on December 13. Students began the program with choir music and chimes conducted by Jan Wall followed by a play entitled "The Perfect Fit” by a mix of students from the upper and lower grades. The play was a modern Christmas tale about a family learning the true blessings of giving instead of receiving.

This month started off with a bang with all the fun surrounding the Fall Fest on November 1st. Cristal did a wonderful job with this event that was held in the gym. The eighth graders held a cake walk that was hosted by Cheryl Smith. With her help they raised $175 for their class trip. We want to extend a thank you to all the generous people who took the time to donate a cake for the event. The grand prize winner was Michelle Sipes who won a gorgeous carrot cake made by Sue Schubert.

The morning was chilly but hearts were warmed as children of all ages gathered together on Sabbath morning, November 22, for HISspace children’s church.  The theme for the day was using our talents for the Lord, specifically talking about music.  What better way to start then with a song service led out by Jan Wall and finished with Amazing Grace sung by Dominique Wilson.

The school has just finished the first quarter of the year already. Our field trip to the corn maize in Pennsylvania saw thrilled children and adults meandering through the rows of corn looking for clues to unlock the secrets about China. Only Wayne and Garrett Short successfully found them all. We also took a trip on a wagon to the orchard so that each student could pick a bag of apples and a pumpkin.

Women’s Ministries Sabbath, October 25th, started with a salute to our military service men.  Each stood up and told which of the armed forces he was in and his rank.

The weather was with us as we loaded up our wagons and headed out of Dodge early on the evening of Oct 3rd. “Head East!” said the conference officials and surely you’ll find gold in the sand. “Boy is that odd,” I thought, “Gold was found in the mountains.”  So we loaded the gear and gathered a few souls and ventured to the dunes of Cape Henlopen bordered at Lewes, Delaware.

Greetings from the dusty trail. It would seem that the Timber Wolves are off to a strong start. Registration night brought out the masses and eight recruits were signed up for the 2008-09 season. In the wings are four sprinters, just waiting on paperwork. And making their way to the stands are three young rustlers just itching to join the team. Lord willing, this club will see 15 young, talented, eager and on-fire-for-the-Word-of-God Pathfinders.

The sight of the New York Triathlon entrant crawling across this finish line left an indelible mark in my mind. He had already finished the 1,500-meter swim and 40-kilometer bike ride portions of the New York City Triathlon and was just steps away from finishing the 10-kilometer run when he reached the end of physical endurance. His brother wrote, “The weather that day was very hot and very humid and his body became dehydrated and heat exhaustion set in. He had to crawl across the finish line because he had expended every last ounce of energy he had.”

Harry Johnson

Harry Johnson was one of the oldest members who attended Westminster Seventh-day Adventist church in recent years. You could find him sitting on the piano side with ear phones and a portable receiver to assist with his hearing. He could still sing along with the hymns and paid close attention to the sermon, especially when his son, Del was preaching. He actively assisted in editing for the WSDA NEWS any articles we sent to him.

They looked resplendent and glowing on their “thrones” as guests arrived August 24, 2008, with a smaller version of the golden anniversary cake between them that read “Spence and Darlene Hall, 50 Years of Happiness.” Their daughter, Tina Hudgins, had made all the arrangements for a lovely open house: from the sparkling huge, green grapes and strawberries, hors d’ovres meatballs and cold stuffed chicken salad pasta shells to small bottles of water tied with gold ribbons and labeled with her parents’ names and anniversary dates.
