Crest Lane students presented the annual Christmas program to the Westminster congregation on December 13. Students began the program with choir music and chimes conducted by Jan Wall followed by a play entitled "The Perfect Fit” by a mix of students from the upper and lower grades. The play was a modern Christmas tale about a family learning the true blessings of giving instead of receiving.
The program began with students singing, "Journey to the Light." The fourteen upper graders played, "Christmas Chimes," standing shoulder-to-shoulder at the chime tables.
The lower graders played the part of carolers as they sang, "Fum, Fum, Fum," at a strategic spot in the play, using rhythm instruments as accompaniment.
A ‘Dowel Rod Drama’ was the finale. The upper grade students used dowel rods to pantomime the song, "Still Her Little Child," by Ray Boltz. This was a moving depiction of Mary rocking baby Jesus (a dowel rod) all through His life from the time the angel announced His birth down to when He was taken off the cross (also dowel rods). As Robbie McNeave came up the isle, grabbed Mary's "baby" from her arms and broke it over his knee, the last line, "He was still her little child," moved many to tears as Mary hovered over the broken stick. We considered the symbolism and remembered the prophecy that a sword would pierce Mary's heart. What a poignant way to usher in the Christmas season.
When finished at WSDA, students packed up and went to Reisterstown. After this presentation students performed one more time at the Carroll Lutheran Nursing Home where students were broadcast live throughout the nursing home so that room bound residents could watch. Residents called out God's blessings and thank-you’s as students and staff were packing up. It was a special time to have so many enjoy the talents that the Lord has blessed us with.
