The theme for our Health and Temperance Day on Sabbath, November 8, 2008, was "Restoring God's Image in Humanity."  We were privileged to have Dr. Gasper Colon, professor of religion and a recent past president of Columbia Union College, as the key note speaker for our special health and temperance day. His lovely wife, May Ellen, also accompanied him for this special time.

His text was based on a reading in the church hymnal entitled "Healthful Living." The passage expressed the hope that God's people will enjoy physical as well as spiritual health. It also reminds us that our bodies are the dwelling place for the Holy Spirit. We were bought and paid for; therefore we are obligated to use our bodies to glorify God.

In his remarks, Dr George colon said that when God created Adam and Eve in his image, they resembled him physically, intellectually and spiritually. They were also to care for the environment, the Garden of Eden, in which He placed them. They were created perfect with the capacity to live forever. Their mitochondrial volume (electrical and chemical energy in each body cell) was 2000%. Most normal humans today possess a mitochondrial volume of 8-10%.

Merely following health principles does not make us better Christians. However, because of our vital connections to Christ, practicing the principles of health becomes a spiritual act of worship, and loving obedience, to the will of Christ.
