Jim Gilley tells of a certain lady afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis who ran in the NY city Marathon. This was her 16th time! She used two canes to assist her run. The woman who won the race finished in 2 hours and 22 minutes. But Zoe finished in 29 hours and 45 minutes without stopping!
Every step for her was painful she reported, “I just kept putting one foot in front of the other until I get where I want to go.”
We all know the results of procrastination! Things snowball and we try to cram to make up the time. This could be with projects, doctoral dissertations, offerings we had promised, our health, dreams of the future. . .
But if we would simply put one task in front of another, one page per day, commit to tithes and offering set aside systematically week by week, avail ourselves of good information re: our health, and make dreams a reality one day at a time. . .We will get where we need to go!
Today, China and Russia signed an accord to only trade with their own money rather than the dollar. N. Korea is again testing S. Korea’s resolve, China has now taken control of 97% of all the earth’s rare minerals. India is amassing its own troops against China’s southern border with them; Afghanistan contains 1 trillion dollars worth of precious minerals, of which the world is rapidly running out. Does this explain why it is so strategic, located on the Caspian Sea, to so many neighboring countries? Nations are in perplexity! The Lord is coming are we ready?
As we wrap up 2010, one of my most personally challenging years; a year for me when if I had responded in a certain way to a life situation, my life would have never been the same! 2010 has revealed much about my life and my readiness to be ready for our Lord’s Second Coming! I am humbly thankful to have experienced this life situation and to have been victorious. I believe that through this process I not only lifted up the life of Christ but became a good example for those around me! And I believe that in the long run those involved will have been confronted by the claims of the Gospel for right living!
Because of this life situation and other church related matters, I have procrastinated and been delayed in work on a PhD in Biblical Studies by a full year! Now I will in the remaining weeks of 2010 ask God for the grace to redeem the time apparently lost but so incredibly practical in the “University of Hard Knocks!” It really was not lost time. Somehow I feel it became the enemy’s tool to derail what I feel is a Spirit led venture to pursue a book in dissertation form re: the order of Spiritual Gifts as often “artificially” implemented in our evangelistic outreach! For me Zoe’s advice is appropriate: just put one foot in front of the other; it may take time but you will reach the finish line.
