December found the school busy with holiday plans as we prepared for the performance of our annual Christmas program. We spent hours and hours in the perfection of lines and staging which culminated on December 13 as the students took the worship spot to present the play "The Gift of the Magi." The play took a different view of the journey of the Magi; coming to visit Jesus as a young child instead of in the manager as we usually see it portrayed. There may have been more wise men than the usual three we traditionally think of. A large caravan as theirs would have created quite a stir as it moved through the country and even to the palace. Our hope was that the audience would put Christ first in their lives, seeking Him daily as the Magi did.
Each child had an important role to fulfill and did a wonderful job playing their characters. Jan Wall helped with the sets and even in the sound booth to make sure the play went off without any hitches. Special music was provided by several different groups of students, with the aid of an adult or two. A small orchestra was formed by the students involved in music lessons and they played the song "Silent Night." Mrs. Wall and Jonaton Tejel both lent their support to the small group. The lower graders joined their voices and formed a small choir; singing two songs "Jamaican Noel" and "Around the World It's Christmas" with Astrid Tejel and Abbie Smuda singing harmony. The program closed with the upper graders performing a lighted dowel rod song "Joy to the World." I actually had the privilege of joining this small group. I'm sure I was the most nervous of the group. Overall I was very happy with the whole experience and saddened by the fact that it was over so quickly.
I hope that your holidays were blessed and peaceful. Please continue to pray for our school and its continued success. Jill Smuda, Principal
