The Open House at Crest Lane was a fun event.  There was a scavenger hunt for the students.  Mrs. Smuda made up a list of about 15-20 items to get and find throughout all the things going on that day.

Mrs. Smuda had a nature group “Echoes of Nature” come and bring a few animals for the children to see up close and personal.  There was a big cockroach, snake, ferret, and two other animals.  Her classroom was full with people standing outside the door.

In Mrs. Misselhorn’s room everyone could decorate a small tote bag in which to carry all the scavenger hunt items.  There was a basketball shoot in the gym, too, and at 3 PM everyone migrated to the old classrooms for the closing program.

Mrs. Smuda officiated at the program and spoke of how she tried to take “fear” out of poetry and make if fun.  She had all her students read two selections of poems they wrote.  All the students sang a couple songs and Mrs. Wall had the students who were taking instrument lessons play a piece on their instrument.  The instruments this year were violins that were donated to the school, guitars and a clarinet.

Then came the moment all the students had been waiting for… who was their secret pal?!!  The students lined up in front of the audience in the Music/Chapel room.  First the lower grades secret pals were asked to come forward to their student then the upper grade secret pals came forward.  Throughout the year the students had been guessing or trying to guess who their secret pal was.  Mrs. Smuda asked if anyone had a guess who was their secret pal.  None of the students had a clue!
