News & Announcements
07
The school has just finished the first quarter of the year already. Our field trip to the corn maize in Pennsylvania saw thrilled children and adults meandering through the rows of corn looking for clues to unlock the secrets about China. Only Wayne and Garrett Short successfully found them all. We also took a trip on a wagon to the orchard so that each student could pick a bag of apples and a pumpkin.

A picnic was held on Sunday, October 12 for all the parents to have an informal time together and to get to know some of the new faces this year. Home and School took charge of the menu and we enjoyed plenty of good food. We had a short Home and School meeting and then played some games, making sure there were parents on the field with the students.

The last big event was the arrival of the Bookmobile. The students kept asking all day, "When will they get here?" Finally it rolled into the parking lot and the upper grades were eager see the selections that the librarians had included for them. While the upper grades were on the bus, the lower grades were being treated to a story time, then they had the chance to also make book selections. The Bookmobile will be coming to the school every three weeks and will be visiting again October 29. We can't wait!

The school just finished up its first fundraiser for the year; students selling Joe Corbis. Starting in November, citrus will be available for sale. (See calendar for ordering schedule.)

We have some new school board members this year: Kabwayi Kobongo, Darcel Harris, Cristal Tyler and our Home and School leader, Michele Sipes. The board elected a new chairperson, Cristal Tyler, who will be assisted by Bob Shaffer as assistant chair. Harold Greene will continue as the treasurer and the principal as recording secretary.

We welcome the new family in the school's apartment, now home to Jana, Rony, Matthew, Kenny, and Kenai Pesek. The Lord was so gracious to fill that apartment so quickly after the Reynolds left.

The students are just now commencing work on the Christmas program scheduled for December 13. I hope to see you there! Jill Smuda-Principal
