Over the weekend of February 26-28, seven members of the Westminster Youth Group attended the Generation Rain Spiritual Retreat for students grades 9-12 accompanied by Tom & Cheryl Smith. Hannah McGuire, Robbie McNeave, Crystal Marie Tyler-Smith, Matthew Spielman, Corey Tyler, Hakeem Wilson and Mandi Wilson took an intensive weekend course on the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the latter rain!!!
Music for the weekend was provided by Jackob's Night. The speaker for the weekend was Randy Preston. He was born in Nottingham, England but grew up in various countries, as a son of missionary parents. He is a teacher in Anacostia, WDC and describes his job as "the best job I've ever had." Randy loves to teach, loves youth, loves God, loves talking about Jesus, loves his family, loves football, loves worship, loves playing guitar and listening to music. He is the lead singer for the Christian band, Jackob's Night.
Randy is a popular speaker at retreats, camp meetings and summer camps. He speaks, preaches, and sings all over the country. His greatest desire is to have kids fall in love with Jesus and become fanatical disciples. He firmly believes, "when youth become Jesus fanatics they are unstoppable - they can change the world!"
Generation Rain is the call of God for every young person in the 21st century. God is seeking a generation that will step it up, that will raise the bar high, that will hold up His banner against the prevailing culture, that will prophesy and see His visions. Joel 2:28 says, "I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions." The Chesapeake Conference Youth were challenged to decide whether or not they will allow the Holy Spirit into their lives to make changes and become leaders for Christ. During the weekend our youth took a Spiritual Gifts test to find out where God is leading them to serve. Saturday night Cristal Marie and Hakeem took a stand for Jesus and decided to have a deeper relationship with Him. They were both re-baptized and came forth a new creation in Christ. We rejoice with all of heaven as these two amazing Christian youth take their relationship with Christ to a whole new level!! I challenge all of our members of the Westminster Church family to do the same. When was the last time you stood before hundreds of your peers proclaiming Jesus Christ and your need to follow Him more fully and have a deeper relationship and commitment? God bless you Cristal and Hakeem. Thank you for being bold for our Savior.
