The annual Westminster Christmas Homecoming started at 7 pm, Friday evening, December 18. ‘Katie’ (Andee Johnson) is in charge of the annual church nativity and things are not going well. Her reluctant son, (Robbie McNeave) is drafted and becomes a cranky ‘Joseph’. ‘Mary’ (Mandi Wilson) is trying to figure the Christmas story out, and between music and a reading, the story winds towards the traditional ending of congregational joyful singing of Silent Night.

The variety of specials included a story by Cheryl Smith, harmonica solo by Zeph Edwards, JGFQ quartet, “Gigue” by Frank Hardy, Circle of Friends, Tony’s traditional “C.H.R.I.S.T.M.A.S.” and others. High points included Robbie patiently endured a scratchy beard and long hair (“Can I take this hair and beard off?” he surreptitiously texted to his mom during the program.) and Mandi lecturing ‘Joseph’s’ cat-calling friends.

Del Johnson, script writer and producer said, “We have the school’s Christmas program, and usually the ‘Homecoming’ is mostly adults. This year I wanted to involve some of the teens. Robbie, Mandi and Corey were willing and did an outstanding job. I was really proud of them.”

Thanks to Rin London who organized a ‘Christmas Tea’ after the program, Jan Wall who arranged for costumes and scratchy beard, Carl McNeave at Audio/Visual, Tom Smith, master of ceremonies, ‘Sad Lady’ (Judy Norwood), Harold Greene (prompter) and many others who made the evening special.
