News & Announcements
07
The weather was with us as we loaded up our wagons and headed out of Dodge early on the evening of Oct 3rd. “Head East!” said the conference officials and surely you’ll find gold in the sand. “Boy is that odd,” I thought, “Gold was found in the mountains.”  So we loaded the gear and gathered a few souls and ventured to the dunes of Cape Henlopen bordered at Lewes, Delaware.

On our journey we stopped and had some homemade grub and a much needed stretch.  We crossed the Chesapeake Bay and arrived safely and well fed around 9pm in time to unhitch the wagons and pull up a bunk.

With dawn’s arrival we the Pathfinders fixed up some vittles, on the griddles. Our day started with Inspections and Sabbath school, where we discussed this year’s Camporee theme “Friends Forever.” We then headed to the main pavilion to meet some 300 other Pathfinders and be blest with a sermon for Worship that truly showed Gods love for us. Afterwards we marched in a parade and witnessed a Drill exhibition by other PF’s. We had a well-deserved lunch and then divided up to earn honors and see the things God has made for our pleasure.

We gathered shells and horseshoe crabs from the Ocean, but NO sign of gold. Sabbath evening all gathered for a Praise & Worship service. We were greatly blest by the music and spoken words. Afterward we enjoyed a campfire with s’mores and laughter.

Sunday morning after a hearty breakfast prepared by the Pathfinders, we ventured to the beach for kite flying, a sand castle contest and swimming and playing in the water. Yep! Swimming in the ocean in October! We all received what we were searching for: time with our Lord away from the clutter of the world.

We then loaded up the wagons and crossed over the beautiful Bay safely to arrive at home. It dawned on me as I found time alone with God that I had misheard the conference officials saying we would find gold; they said we would find GOD! AND WE DID!
