Crest Lane opened its doors on a hot and humid Tuesday, August 18. Some of the students and the teacher were trying to recover from their recent return the evening before from Oshkosh. In spite of the heat and earliness of the 8:10 AM start, school was off to a great beginning. Nine students began that day in the upper grades and now there are ten, thanks to the return of the Wong family from their vacation. The lower grades classroom has nine eager faces sitting in the desks. For sure we have room for more, but the Lord has given us these charges to begin with.
This year the students are collecting money for a new SDA school to be built in Maluti, Lesotho in Africa. Our students are excited about the challenge and have set a personal goal of collecting $500. That is quite a bit of money so we are going to ask for your help by setting up a collection box in the foyer at the church. Feel free to drop in any amount that the Lord impresses upon you. We are collecting a mission offering every Wednesday when the Pastor comes to speak to us. The students are also going to hold a bake sale here at the school on Monday, September 14. The students will be bringing goodies to sell at lunch time for each other and also for parents and church family to buy baked goods after school. We hope this will be a successful venture.
Once again this year Jan Wall is teaching music on Monday. Pastor Josh is coming to give the kids a great work out on Wednesday afternoons. Rose Eide-Altman is giving private piano lessons to the students during school on Thursday. Of course, Nancy is running the office for us as always. What would we do without her? I don't even want to think about it, I'll get a headache. Dan Thomas is running our computer network and adding more computers to the lower grades classroom just as he did for the upper grades last year. The teachers eagerly await the return of Debbie Wantz who is still recovering from her recent surgery. She is our faithful aide and we miss her presence.
Who can tell what adventures lay ahead of us for this year? Time will tell!
