News & Announcements

Greeted by floating silver moons and star balloons, the 22 participants in Westminster’s 2008 Vacation Bible School knew they were in for a real treat this year: COSMIC CITY! Under the VERY organized direction of Cristal Tyler (who was quick to point out SHE was under the direction of GOD!), 44 volunteers in bright lime green T-shirts were all in their places with a schedule in hand ready to have fun. Any traces of a school were erased with sheets of black space and galaxies in front of lockers, over computers, desks and bookshelves! Silver sun, moon & stars hung between rooms; puffs of clouds above and moon rocks below gave an eerie feel to the drama room.

The general theme for the 5-day program was “Explore the Awesome Wonder of God.” Each day had an emphasis, memory verse, story to illustrate and hidden clue. The drama time told the story: Day One was Creation, Day Two was Israel & Manna, Day Three was the Paralytic Man, Day Four was Jesus Walks on Water and Day Five was the Resurrection.

It would take the rest of the newsletter to name all the wonderful people who gave freely of their time to help make VBS such a success this year. But the head leaders for each stop the groups rotated through were Cheryl Smith, Theater of the Galaxies; Pastor Josh Voigt, Asteroid Alley (games); Penny Wilson, Deeper Space (Music & Memory Verse); Debbie Wantz, SuperNova (crafts); Jill Smuda, Wonder U (Space Lab); and Elizabeth Wilson, The Shooting Star Drive-In (snacks).

The happy faces were reward enough for all the tired adults after the closing program Sabbath evening vespers 7-8:30 PM. But to see several children back in the craft room anxious to do more crafts, hugging their “teachers” and proudly showing their parents what they did during the week, filled their hearts to overflowing. There may have been 22 official “children” who attended, but many teenager assistants were just as eager to participate and soak it all in.
ALL FOR THE GLORY OF GOD - OUT OF THIS WORLD!
